Help Is the Theme

Published on 9 June 2026 at 10:53

Monday Club Season 5, Week 4 rolled around this week, and while the plan was to finally lock in the hook, things took a slightly different direction. A couple of our resident hook writers couldn't make the session, and voting on a chorus without everybody's input didn't feel quite right. So rather than force it, we followed where the conversation took us.

The theme for the evening became help. What does it mean to receive help? What does it mean to give it? What different forms can it take? Sometimes help looks obvious, and sometimes it comes from places you don't expect.

These ideas became the foundation for the verses we'll be building over the coming weeks. This time around, we loosened the shackles a little and gave everyone complete freedom to approach the topic however they wanted. Some artists took a personal route, others looked at wider experiences, and a few found angles nobody else in the room had considered. That's always one of the best parts of the process. Give people the same theme and you'll get sixteen completely different stories back.

As always, the session finished with people sharing what they'd written. That's never a small thing. Whether you've been coming for years or it's your first time reading something out loud, there's something powerful about putting your words into the room and letting them be heard. The support people show each other during those moments is what keeps Monday Club moving.

Next week, we're finally turning our attention back to the hook and getting some recording done. At least that's the plan.

We'll see where the music takes us.
