We’re playing a bit of catch up on the blog because things have been moving fast, as usual. Last week at our penultimate Monday Club, we were down a key member as Kene took a well deserved holiday. Probably the first proper break in a long time, so no complaints there.
In his absence, we were joined by veteran Agent Orange, who stepped in and brought some valuable insight into the track and how things were shaping up. The session itself had a very free flowing energy to it, less rigid structure, more of a “if you’ve got something, get in the booth” kind of vibe.
Stepping into the booth, or as we call it, the Tardis, is never a small thing. It can be a daunting space, especially when your peers are just outside listening in. That pressure is real, and we fully get it. But it’s always powerful to see people take that step anyway, laying down bars, vocals, adlibs, little moments that slowly build into what the final track becomes.
Those are the bits that give the song its character. Not just the written verses, but the spontaneous ideas, the small risks, the takes that only happen because someone decided to give it a go.
Next week we stay on the same path, focusing on sequencing and finalising everything before the big mix down. The end is in sight now, and it’s starting to take shape in a big way.
